Dorchester comes alive on Museums at Night

‘Museums at Night’ is coming to Dorchester in a big way on Saturday 15th May. The historic county town of Dorset boasts no fewer than six superb museums and this Museums Night will see all six museums open from 5pm to 9pm. Added to that there is a special ticket for that evening only of just £6 for admission to all six museums.

T rex ‘Down Under’

Until now T rex and other tyrannosaurs had only been found in the northern hemisphere. Now a hipbone from a tyrannosaur has been discovered at Dinosaur Cove, in Victoria state, in Australia. The bone comes from the early Cretaceous period of about 110 million years ago. It is thought the whole tyrannosaur would have been about 3m long and weighed about 80kg. Continue Reading…

Scavenging Velociraptor

A new discovery proves that Velociraptor scavenged for food as well as hunting. The find is of fossilised Velociraptor teeth next to scarred bones of a Protoceratops. This would imply that the Velociraptor came across the carcass of the Protoceratops and scavenged the meat from it. This is not the first find of Protoceratops and Velociraptor. Continue Reading…

Chinese ‘Roadrunner’ Dinosaur

A tiny, agile dinosaur has been discovered in the upper Cretaceous rocks of the Henan province in China. It has been officially named Xixianykus zhangi, although its discoverers have nicknamed it the ‘roadrunner’ because it was a highly efficient and fast runner. Continue Reading…
