Walking With Dinosaurs LiveThe Arena Spectacular of the theatrical production of Walking with Dinosaurs Live is coming to Britain in the summer of 2009. You can book your tickets now. So far the live show has proved a sensational hit in both Australia and America. It is based on the BBC’s multi-award winning Walking with Dinosaurs television series, bringing 15 dinosaurs to “life” in a staged environment. The Arena Spectacular show was several years in the planning and took a whole year for a team of 50 artists and technicians to create. It then opened in Sydney in July 2007.

The dinosaurs are life-size and represent 10 species from the reign of the dinosaurs. Dinosaurs first evolved 230 million years ago and were the dominant animals for 165 million years before becoming extinct 65 million years ago. Amongst the dinosaurs that appear are Plateosaurus from the Triassic period, Allosaurus, Stegosaurus and Brachiosaurus from the Jurassic period, and Torosaurus, Utahraptor and of course Tyrannosaurus rex from the Cretaceous period.

Tim Haines, who created and produced the BBC Walking with Dinosaurs series, is Project Consultant for the Arena Spectaculars. The live show depicts the evolution of the dinosaurs with scenes of contact and action between different dinosaurs. The dinosaurs are animatronic and operated at a distance by puppeteers. The sets and music add to the overall superb effect. The show is touring Britain during July and August 2009.
