Brontosaurus Rises Like a Phoenix

Published: 8th Apr 2015

First discovered in the 1870s Brontosaurus had a short live as as an individual species. In 1903 scientists ruled that Brontosaurus and Apaptosauruis were one and the same dinosaur, and so Brontosaurus took on the name of the earlier  named species – Apatosaurus.

Now over 110 years later an indepth study using sophisticated computer software of Brontosaurus, by scientists at Oxford, has determined that it has enough differences from Apatosaurus to be recognised as a dinosaur in its own right. And so Brontosaurus is reborn.

Brontosaurus is one of the iconic dinosaurs – a large long-necked plodding beast that lived during the Jurassic period in what is now North America and fed off the leaves on trees.
